The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Region 10 (DSWD-10) and Senator-elect Bong Go recently visited around 200 families here who were left homeless after a fire destroyed their houses in Iligan City.
Go arrived at the covered court in Barangay Ubaldo Laya where some of the 194 families are temporarily staying, distributing basic goods and cash assistance while assuring victims of the government’s continued assistance.
In his speech, the former Special Assistant to the President (SAP) said his visit to the fire victims was part of his campaign promise to serve the people who are in need wherever they are in the country.
Go is known for visiting fire victims even before he entered the Senatorial race, often serving as President Rodrigo Duterte’s goodwill ambassador to families ravaged by calamities.
Esterlito Bendong, 53, said the cash assistance was a big help in buying his medicines for diabetes.
Rosefe Anggot, sister of Lydia Pacalna who died during the fire, was thankful for Go’s assurance that the displaced families can avail of the housing projects of the National Housing Authority (NHA).
“Displaced families can avail of the housing projects of the National Housing Authority.”
Go also told the fire victims that they can avail of the livelihood assistance of the Department of Trade and Industry and scholarship program of the Department of Education.
“They can avail of the livelihood assistance of DTI and scholarship program of the DepEd.”
Meanwhile, the DSWD-10 provided 195 hygiene kits, 195 kitchen kits, 195 blankets, 195 “malong,” and 195 mosquito nets and three family food packs for each of the families.
