UP HOMEGROWN TORCULAS GOES TO NCAA

Aldous Torculas is taking his talents outside Diliman for the first time in six years, eager to extend the UP Fight away from home.

The Jr. Maroon-turned-Fighting Maroon has opted to forego his remaining playing years in maroon-and-green to suit up in the NCAA, where he will bring his valuable championship experience and versatile skill set.

“We’re proud of Aldous kung saan man siya susunod na maglalaro and we’re sure that he’ll make UP proud by bringing the UP Fight,” said UP Office of Athletics and Sports Development Dir. Bo Perasol.

“We wish Aldous the best and for sure, there are no goodbyes to be said right now. We’ll see you soon!”

The 6-foot-4 wing was a key player off the bench for the UP men’s basketball team (MBT) in its title run in UAAP Season 87. He averaged 3.9 points and 2.3 rebounds in eight minutes of play, all while being tasked to defend the likes of La Salle’s Kevin Quiambao and NU’s Jake Figueroa.

Prior to his stint on Diliman’s seniors squad, he was a standout for UPIS, posting per game counts of 11.6 points, 15.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.3 blocks, and 2.3 steals en route to Season 82 Boys’ Mythical Team honors.

Torculas was the most recent homegrown talent to move up from UPIS to UP.

Now, the Malabon native will take on the challenge of proving himself in the Philippines’ oldest collegiate league, and is expected to raise the bar of whatever program he will join.
