The University of the Philippines Academic League of Chemical Engineering Students, Inc. (UP ALCHEMES) brings back Research Fair, its flagship event and the premiere research event, for its 22nd iteration this February 9-11, 2023, via various online platforms. Open to high school students all over the nation, Research Fair 2023 continues to be an avenue to recognize, drive, and maximize the Filipino youth’s talent and potential in science and technology, as well as showcase their breakthroughs to aid in the improvement of communities and the nation.
With the theme “ZEPPELIN: Adventuring with the Youth to Greater Scientific Altitudes”, Research Fair 2023 dares its participants to look and travel beyond the horizon, likened to how the zeppelin conquered the vast skies and established itself as a figure of scientific and technological ingenuity amid struggle. The event encourages these young minds to push scientific limits and utilize their abilities toward innovations creating a brighter future.
Research Fair will return with its three signature sub-events: the Research Competition, the National Science Conquest, and the Youth Science Convention. The Research Competition will showcase high school students’ research projects while allowing them to exchange and become exposed to different research perspectives and fields. Participants can also battle it out in a test of knowledge and skills in a quiz-bee-type competition in the National Science Conquest. The Youth Science Convention will feature talks and a workshop by esteemed speakers in the field of science, as well as a Case Study Competition highlighting participants’ proposed solutions for the given problem statement regarding the reduction of carbon footprint in shopping centers.
Research Fair’s journey started way back in 2001, having received ten research entries, but has steadily gained recognition and success through the years and subsequently expanded into a three-day event. While the event continues its implementation online due to the effects of the pandemic, Research Fair and the organization stay dedicated to its commitment to service for the Filipino people, proven and strengthened by this flexibility and the event’s growth.
