The Provincial Government of Samar, through its Local Social Integration Program (LSIP), distributed P3.4M worth of financial assistance to some 74 former rebels at the Spark Samar Hub Convention Center, Catbalogan City.
Governor Sharee Ann Tan led the distribution of aid, together with Board Member Luzviminda Nacario, 801BDE Deputy Brigade Commander Col. Carmelito Pangatungan, and DILG Provincial Director Judy Batulan.
In her message, Tan said, “I would like to thank everyone for your decision to return to the folds of the law, and cooperate with the government.”
“These road projects are a testament of our commitment to ensure just and lasting peace.”

The LSIP is an initiative of the province, whereby cash assistance and other services are provided to former communist terrorist group members, to alleviate their conditions as they return to the folds of the law.
Former rebel members receive P25,000 immediate assistance, P50,000 livelihood assistance, and P25,000 per firearm surrendered.
For this program, former rebel members receive P25,000 immediate assistance, P50,000 livelihood assistance, and P25,000 per firearm surrendered.
Former Militia ng Bayan members also receive P10,000 immediate assistance, and P25k for every firearm surrendered.
Meanwhile, mass supporters will receive financial assistance of P1,000.
The government encourages active members of the communist terrorist groups to surrender and avail the benefits provided by law.
