The City Government of Surigao officially launched the Milestone Program of Distinction (MPD) for nonagenarians.
Mayor Pablo Yves Dumlao II and Vice Mayor Alfonso Casurra led the launch, joined by representatives from the National Commission of Senior Citizens – Caraga Region Raphael P. Ocharo, Tito Jan Erwin L. Cero, and Gina P. Cabrera. Also present were Office of Senior Citizens Affairs Head Alexander Almeda, and City Social Welfare and Development Officer Lenie S. Liray with the CSWD staff.
“The Milestone Program of Distinction honors the lives and legacies of senior citizens who have helped shape the Surigaonon community through the years,” Dumlao said.
City Ordinance No. 529-2024 grants a one-time cash benefit to Surigaonon senior citizens aged 90 to 99 years old.
The MPD is a local program under City Ordinance No. 529-2024, which grants a one-time cash benefit to Surigaonon senior citizens aged 90 to 99 years old.
It supports Republic Act No. 11982 or the Expanded Centenarians Act by giving earlier recognition to senior citizens who have reached this milestone.
During the program, one octogenarian, Floreto Eguna from Brgy. Buenavista was also awarded ₱10,000 for reaching 80 years old.
A total of 17 nonagenarians each received ₱50,000 as part of the first batch of beneficiaries.

The City Government has so far identified 152 qualified nonagenarians. For the first quarter, 34 were verified and 19 completed the needed documents to receive the benefit.
“This program is a recognition of the invaluable contributions and enduring legacies of our senior citizens who have played a vital role in shaping Surigao City,” the information office said.
This is the first of several batches.
Nonagenarians who have not yet received the benefit are encouraged to visit the City Social Welfare and Development Office for help in processing their requirements.
