For winning the Outstanding Congressman Award for the 3rd consecutive year, Superbrands Marketing International Inc. is holding a special awarding ceremony for 1-Ang Edukasyon Party-list Representative Bong Belaro today at Seda Hotel, Vertis North, Quezon City.
According to Kenneth Rocete, Marketing Director of SMI Inc., Cong Belaro is a run-away choice not only because of his legislative achievements in the 17th Congress, particularly in advocating for an empowering education, but also because of his superb academic qualifications and his professional pre-Congress experience.
Rep. Bong Belaro welcomed the award and said that it is a testament of 1-Ang Edukasyon Party-list’s hard work and an affirmation of its assiduous advocacy in Congress for legislations that will redound to an accessible, high quality and globally competitive education. He said, the award is a pat in the back for him and the party to keep doing it right.
To date, Rep. Belaro has already authored a total of 728 bills and resolutions (one of the highest record in the 17th Congress), half of which relate to education. Of the said number, 23 have already become laws, including the Free College Education Law, the Free Wifi in Public Places Law and the Philippine Qualifications Framework Law.

One of our most academically qualified politicians today, Rep. Belaro is a Valedictorian from Goa, Camarines Sur. The son of a farmer and a public school teacher, he obtained his B.A. Political Science (Cum Laude) and his Bachelor of Laws from the University of the Philippines where he was elected Class President at the College of Law, and was a debater and a schoolpaper editor.
He holds a Master of Laws degree from Cornell University (New York, U.S.A.) where he was elected Class Representative of the LLM Class of 2004.
His professional experience spans more than 20 years as a lawyer, author and educator. As a lawyer, he was a senior associate of one of the premier law firms in Metro Manila, was managing partner of the law office which bears his name, and has contributed to Philippine jurisprudence owing to cases he handled that has reached the Supreme Court, proof that he is one of the best legal minds of his generation. He is also a Lecturer of the MCLE for lawyers and was a former Commissioner of the Commission on Bar Discipline of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines.

As a writer, he was a former correspondent of the Manila Times and has several local and international publications, including the best-seller, “Legal Forms for Entrepreneurs” (National Bookstore etc.)
As an educator, he was a former College of Law Dean, and had taught Political Science and Law subjects at the University of the Philippines, Ateneo De Manila University, Entrepreneurship School of Asia, University of Caloocan City and St. Dominic Savio College.
In 2018, Rep. Belaro was also named as one of the University of the Philippines Alumni Association’s Outstanding Alumnus for Public Service and Good Governance.
In the very first pre-election survey of party-list groups contending for the May 2019 elections recently conducted by the University of Caloocan City, his party – 1-Ang Edukasyon Party-list – emerged as the number one choice of its students if the elections were held today.
