Engineers in general are the backbone of nation building and Industrial Engineers in the industry and society always seek for continuous improvement. With this, University of the Philippines Los Baños Industrial Engineering Students’ Organization (UPLB IESO) proudly present the 14th installation of Southern Tagalog Industrial Engineering Seminar (STIES) with the theme “AWAKEN: Breaking Engineering Boundaries Towards A Progressive Nation Building.”
STIES is a national Industrial Engineering event that aims to upskill the knowledge and aptitude of IE students and professionals by immersing them in emerging IE trends and methodologies in a variety of industry fields. The organization invited professionals, companies, and reputable speakers to share their knowledge and firsthand experiences.
This year’s STIES goes beyond its limit by allowing participants to open their eyes to the possibilities and opportunities that industrial engineering can bring in the field of nation building which encompasses each individual’s right to access a progressive economy. Given the negative impact of the spread of coronavirus in the economic backbone of every country, the engineering principle of Kaizen has contributed to the rise of numerous methodologies that advances the country’s technological and industrial field. Hence, industrial engineers can play a vital role in evaluating and designing optimal plans to address the current problems in the Philippine economy (e.g. transportation system, inflation, devaluation, etc.).
Furthermore, STIES XIV stands out from the past iterations of the seminar because it offers a virtual career fair that aims to connect industrial engineering students to companies and provide them with career opportunities that will help them to grow professionally. It will provide an avenue for participants to broaden their networks and a chance for companies to promote themselves to attract potential applicants.
