At least 2,000 workers will be sent by the Dinagat Islands provincial government to Pyeongchang County in South Korea following a partnership agreement, an official said.
Dinagat Islands Governor Nilo Demerey Jr. said a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the province, the municipality of Basilisa, and the Pyeongchang County was inked recently in Cebu City.
“Representatives of Pyeongchang County were supposed to come to Dinagat for the signing of the MOU but due to their tight schedule we decided to have it in Cebu,” Demerey said.
Signatories to the agreement were the governor, Basilisa Vice Mayor Manuelito Piodo who represented Mayor Ozzy Ecleo, and Pyeongchang County Vice Mayor Kim Yong Jon.

The required age bracket of qualified farmers and fishermen to work in Pyeongchang County is between 30 and 50 years old.
He said farmers and fishermen of Dinagat will not only work in the county and earn, but also learn new agriculture and fishery technologies.
“Part of the MOU states that aside from working and earning, our workers will also undergo learning schemes to acquire knowledge on the latest farming and fishery technologies.”

He said the farmers and fishermen will also be asked to cascade their learnings to the other residents in the province upon their return home.
