SOLAR-POWERED STREET LIGHTS NOW IN LA TRINIDAD

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) successfully completed the installation of solar-powered streetlights along the Pico–Lamtang Road in La Trinidad, Benguet, aiming to improve road safety and accessibility in the area.

The P120.57-million project, implemented under the Build Better More Program, included the installation of 696 single-arm solar street lights with 9-meter poles, mounted on reinforced concrete pedestals and accompanied by 89 linear meters of roller steel barrier.

“The Pico–Lamtang Road is a key passageway for transporting produce from northern Benguet to neighboring provinces.”

In a report to DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan, CAR Regional Director Khadaffy Tanggol emphasized the importance of the Pico–Lamtang Road, a key tertiary road that serves as an alternate connection of La Trinidad to Region I, and is a key passageway for transporting produce from northern Benguet to neighboring provinces.

“The project supports the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s efforts to modernize the country’s road networks and strengthen agricultural economies in the regions, and in line with the ‘Bagong Pilipinas’ vision of sustainable infrastructure that promotes public safety and rural development,” Tanggol explained.

Implemented by Benguet First District Engineering Office, the project is expected to drive local economic growth by encouraging tourism and helping farmers deliver more highland vegetables and strawberries to nearby provinces, now that the road is safer to use at night.
