The chairperson of the House Committee on the Welfare of Children thanked the Supreme Court (SC) for yet another decision against child abuse.
“This recent decision upholding children’s welfare and other similar decisions must be disseminated and learned by all parents, teachers, youth leaders, and barangay officials,” BHW Party-list Representative Angelica Natasha Co said.
“While parents have the right to discipline their children, such measures must not be violent, excessive or disproportionate to their misbehavior.”
According to the ruling of the SC, while parents have the right to discipline their children, such measures must not be violent, excessive or disproportionate to their misbehavior.
Co suggested teaching modules, video clips, podcasts, and books as learning tools.
“I therefore appeal to the Supreme Court to work with DILG, DSWD, DOJ, DepEd, and CHED on cascading all relevant SC jurisprudence down to the schools, student councils, barangays, SKs, police precincts, and Parents-Teachers-Community Associations nationwide,” Co said.
She also appealed to aspiring lawyers and new lawyers to make children’s welfare their special legal aid advocacy.
