Speaker Martin Romualdez expressed profound admiration for the Gilas Pilipinas basketball team that although the country’s Olympic bid ended with a loss to World No. 12 Brazil, they demonstrated unparalleled determination, skill and heart on the international stage of basketball.
Gilas Pilipinas fell short of a win against Brazil, 71-60, during the semifinal round of the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

The seasoned lawmaker said that the close matches with teams like Georgia and Brazil, where Gilas Pilipinas narrowly missed victory by just a few points, highlight the competitive spirit and potential of Philippine athletes.
“These games have shown that with perseverance, strategic play and unity, we can hold our own against higher-ranked opponents. This experience will undoubtedly serve as a foundation for future successes,” he said.
Romualdez then commended the players of Gilas Pilipinas, Coach Tim Cone and the entire coaching staff for their exemplary leadership and dedication.
