Senator Bong Go personally attended the Philippine Councilors League (PCL) – Quezon province chapter seminar, with the theme “Quezon province Legislators: Laying the Solid Foundation in Local Legislation for Sustainable Growth and Development”, at the Grand Regal Hotel in Davao City.
A staunch advocate for local governance empowerment, Go emphasized in his speech the importance of local government officials in driving development in their respective communities.
The legislator likewise urged all councilors in attendance to focus on advocating for good governance practices and promoting transparency.
“You are superstars in your own rights po sa inyong lugar.”
“Bilang mga konsehal po, pareho po tayo ng trabaho. Sa totoo lang po, you are superstars in your own rights po sa inyong lugar. Halos pareho po tayo ng trabaho. Pero hindi naman po nalilimitahan sa pagiging mambabatas ang ating trabaho. Hindi po maiiwasan na marami po ang lalapit sa inyo at hihingi ng tulong,” the lawmaker cited.
“Kayo ay nasa isang mahalagang posisyon upang magdulot ng positibong pagbabago sa inyong mga komunidad. Sa pagganap natin sa ating mga tungkulin, nawa’y isaisip natin ang mga prinsipyong nagsisilbing gabay sa atin bilang mga lingkod-bayan,” the senator continued.
Continuing his message, Go praised the PCL for its efforts to promote good governance and accountability among local government officials, despite these trying times.
He then urged the councilors to further strengthen their efforts and continue working together to build better and more resilient communities amid any crisis situation.
“Nakatutok din ako sa pagtulong sa mga local government units upang makapagbigay ng mga mahahalagang serbisyo sa inyong mga constituents sa abot ng aking makakaya.”
“Asahan n’yo po, bilang isang miyembro po ng Senado, uunahin ko po ‘yung interes ng bawat Pilipino, interes ng ating bayan, kung ano po ang makakatulong sa mga mahihirap. Inuuna ko talaga ‘yung mahihirap, ‘yung mga helpless, hopeless, ‘yung walang matakbuhan kung ‘di ang ating gobyerno. Tulungan po natin sila. ‘Yun po ang ating unahin, ‘yung mga kababayan natin na mahihirap,” he stressed.
“Bilang isang lingkod-bayan din, nauunawaan ko ang mga hamon at oportunidad na kaakibat ng paglilingkod sa ating mga komunidad. Kaya naman, nakatutok din ako sa pagtulong sa mga local government units upang makapagbigay ng mga mahahalagang serbisyo sa inyong mga constituents sa abot ng aking makakaya,” Go noted.
The chair of the Senate Committee on Sports also committed to supporting initiatives promoting grassroots sports development.
For this reason, he continues to push for Senate Bill No. 423 or the proposed Philippine National Games (PNG) Act of 2022, which seeks to ensure a more inclusive system of promoting promising Filipino athletes who possess potential in various fields of sports so they may be given equal opportunities of becoming future contenders in international sporting competitions.
“Nakatuon din ako sa pagpapaganda ng ating grassroots sports program. Bilang advocate ng sports development, naniniwala ako na ang sports ay isang mahalagang kasangkapan sa pagbabago at pagpapalakas ng ating mga komunidad. Hindi man po ako nangangako, asahan ninyo na gagawin ko ang aking makakaya upang makatulong sa inyong lahat,” Go said.
“Through my legislative work in the Senate, I am dedicated to supporting policies and initiatives that can help our LGUs address the various issues and concerns that affect our people, such as in terms of health, education, and resilience, among others,” he concluded.
