The 10th edition of the QCinema International Film Festival returns this year with diversity and ‘in10City’. Cinephiles can watch Featured selections from local and prestigious film festivals across the globe. The 2022 lineup includes fifty-eight films, consists of short programs, seven sections of full-length films, and six film production grant recipients.
QCinema Competition Section
Asian New Wave, the festival’s main competition section, returns after two years with seven entries. One of the competing films includes the late Cherie Gil’s final screen appearance in Elehiya. The category will focus on emerging filmmakers from Southeast and East Asia. Incidentally, another competing title for the category is the Netpac Award winner, 12 Weeks by Anna Isabelle Matutina. A coming-of-age film about Alice, which the lead actor, Max Eigenmann, earned the Best Actress award for.
The short film category will feature six films given production grants of P350,000 each. Winners will be announced on the Awards night on November 23, 2022.
QCinema Exhibition Section
The non-competing films under the exhibition section include eight categories: Screen International, New Horizon, RainbowQC, Special Screenings, Midnight Series, Digitally Restored Classics, Advance Screenings, and Asian Shorts program.
QCinema will run from November 17 – 26, 2022, and will feature the festival opener Triangle of Sadness by Ruben Östlund. The critically-acclaimed class satire starring actress Dolly de Leon won the coveted Palme d’Or grand prize at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. The Filipina actress also aims to get a nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the 75th Academy Awards.
Gateway, Trinoma, SM North EDSA, and recently-added Cinema76 will hold all of the festival’s theatrical screenings—along with Power Plant Mall in Rockwell, Manila, as the sole venue for the festival outside Quezon City.
