The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) turned-over recently to the Department of Health (DOH) the newly-completed coronavirus disease (COVID-19) health facilities at the Quezon Institute compound in E. Rodriguez, Quezon City.
DPWH Secretary and Isolation Czar Mark Villar turned over to DOH Undersecretary and Treatment Czar Leopoldo Vega two units of modular hospital with a total bed capacity of 44 intended for moderate to severe COVID-19 patients and two dormitories with 64 beds for medical personnel manning the operations in Quezon Institute.
Also in attendance at the turn-over ceremony are National Action Plan Against COVID-19 Deputy Chief Implementer and Testing Czar Secretary Vince Dizon and DPWH Undersecretary and Task Force to Facilitate Augmentation of Local and National Health Facilities head Emil Sadain.

The public works chief formed the DPWH Task Force to Facilitate Augmentation of Local and National Health Facilities to handle the construction of isolation and health facilities all over the country that made up for the shortage of hospital beds because of COVID-19 outbreak.
Each modular hospital which will be operated by medical teams from DOH and Jose Reyes Memorial Hospital was designed by DPWH Task Force in coordination with DOH to have specific rooms for the donning or putting on of health care professionals’ personal protective equipment (PPE) such as disposable gowns, gloves, and shoe covers and an area for doffing or taking off of PPEs in order to protect and limit the spread of contamination.
The field modular hospital will also have a copper tube for oxygen and tanks, separate nurses’ stations, equipment laboratory, pantry, storage, CCTV lines, and monitoring board.

Sadain said that by February 2021, additional three units of modular hospital with 66 beds are expected to be completed by DPWH inside Quezon Institute compound.
