If you go deeper into the Filipino music scene, you will realize how many talented and exceptionally radical artists we have. In a time when Kpop is dominating our hearts and the music charts, finding a Filipino artist thrive in the international scene demands attention. If there is a list of must-listen-to artists, No Rome is definitely on that list, arguably on top.
Rome Gomez, popularly known as No Rome, has been striding through the international pop arena. Having to collab with artists like The 1975 and Charli XCX, he sets out a league of his own in terms of vibe and musicality.
For years, No Rome has been drip-feeding us with lo-fi beats and vibe tracks. We first heard him through his single Blue Jeans, which caused a domino effect of a listening session with his other songs. While his most popular singles like Seventeen, Narcissist feat. The 1975, and Spinning are the most listened to on Spotify; we share with you some of No Rome’s extremely satisfying and sick beats that were not included in his discography in the popular streaming platform.
Blue Jeans
Scout magazine collaborated with No Rome for one of his best tracks there is. Released in 2017, he started to make rounds in the indie-underground music scene before becoming an internationally acclaimed artist. To this day, Blue Jeans remains to be our top favorite from his discography.
Ain’t Coming Back
When Prez Nadine Lustre shared on her IG story this track, everyone started to pay attention to the song and the artist. Talk about impact! Though the song was two years younger than Blue Jeans, our No Rome awakening song, this equally satisfying song underlines his supremacy when it comes to synth-pop, lo-fi music. Sadly, this was taken out of his Spotify discography.
Bbgirl
When we said we have many talented and fresh artists in the country, we were not kidding. Bbgirl is a collaborative track with another notable artist in the country BP Valenzuela, also featuring August Wahh. No Rome did not only lend his voice for a few verses of the song, but he also directed the video.
Flowers On My Neck
Another favorite from No Rome’s Soundcloud page was released in 2016. No Rome was a part of the band Teenagers Die from Drama before going solo. Speaking of solo, he and The 1975 also sampled Jay Park’s song ‘Solo’ for their collaborative work Narcissist, which they both performed in Coachella in 2019.
I Spend Endless Days Thinking of Different Ways
This time, sampled from Trey Songz “Neighbors Know My Name”, this track is another hidden gem from No Rome’s list of awesome tracks, which you can listen to on Youtube or his Soundcloud page.
Adore You
Capping off the list is the masterpiece, Adore You. It is No Rome’s single for the EP “Hurry Home & Rest”, released in 2015. Just imagine driving around up north or down south while listening to this song. People should really stop sleeping on this rad artist.
While others would thank Matt Healy of The 1975 for debuting No Rome in Coachella back in 2019, becoming the first Filipino artist to perform in the music festival, with No Rome’s musicality, we knew even then that it’s just a matter of time for more people to hear his music. So, better check him out as he is set to release two full-length albums within the year.
