The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) has lined up massive resources in an overwhelming response to the situation in Mindanao.
PRC Chairman and CEO Dick Gordon directed the dispatch of additional resources in Mindanao after seeing the need to provide immediate relief to about 230,000 families in Davao de Oro, Davao del Norte, Agusan del Sur, and Agusan del Norte affected by the flooding as a result of the shearline and the trough of Low Pressure Area (LPA) that PRC started monitoring since January 16; and the recent landslide.
In line with Gordon’s directive, two food trucks from Cebu arrived at the Nasipit Port in Butuan City.
“We sent additional food trucks because the situation is like a silent, creeping disaster.”
“We sent additional food trucks because the situation is like a silent, creeping disaster. The affected people cannot cook in evacuation centers so we sent the food trucks to provide hot meals for them,” he explained.
The additional relief for Agusan and Davao provinces, placed in container vans and loaded in trucks, arrived at the Surigao del Norte port.
He added that the PRC also has water tankers in the affected areas to enable the affected individuals and their families to have access to water for their personal hygiene.
“We have prepared blankets, drinking water, food packs aside from Welfare and First Aid stations that we put up.”
“The welfare of the people is of utmost priority to us so we are working to continuously alleviate their suffering. We have prepared blankets, drinking water, food packs aside from Welfare and First Aid stations that we put up,” Gordon stressed.
PRC Secretary-General Dr. Gwen Pang said the organization also provided body bags for the victims of the landslide in Barangay Masara, Davao de Oro.
