POWER RESTORATION ONGOING IN TYPHOON-HIT AREAS

Electric cooperatives (ECs) are continuously working to fix the damage to power distribution facilities and restore electricity to areas affected by Typhoon ‘Bising,’ the National Electrification Administration (NEA) said.

Based on the monitoring of the NEA Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department (DRRMD) as of Wednesday (April 21), several areas in Region 8 or Eastern Visayas were still experiencing power service interruptions.

In Bicol Region, power distribution services in Sorsogon and Camarines Sur were also back to normal, particularly in the coverage areas of Camarines Sur II Electric Cooperative, Inc. (CASURECO II), Camarines III Electric Cooperative, Inc. (CASURECO III), Sorsogon II Electric Cooperative (SORECO II) after experiencing interruptions due to the typhoon.

In Western Samar, the Samar I Electric Cooperative, Inc. (SAMELCO I) reported power was fully restored in Calbayog City (Tinambacan District), Tagapul-an, Santo Niño, and Almagro; and partially restored in Calbayog City (Oquendo District), Sta. Margarita, Gandara, San Jorge, Tarangnan, Pagsanghan, and Matuguinao.

In the coverage area of Samar II Electric Cooperative, Inc. (SAMELCO II), the municipalities of Marabut and Pinabacdao were already fully restored; while Catbalogan City, Basey, Calbiga, Daram, Hinabangan, Jiabong, Motiong, Paranas, San Jose De Buan, San Sebastian, Santa Rita, Talalora, Villareal, and Zumarraga were partially restored.   

In Eastern Samar, electricity was fully restored in Hernani, Guiuan, Mercedes, Salcedo, General Macarthur, Lawaan, Quinapondan, Balangiga, Giporlos, according to the Eastern Samar Electric Cooperative, Inc. (ESAMELCO).

ESAMELCO also reported partial restoration in Borongan, Maydolong, Balangkayan, Llorente, San Julian, Sulat, Taft, Can-avid, Dolores, Oras, San Policarpio, Arteche, and Maslog; while the Municipality of Jipapad is still for restoration.

In Northern Samar, the areas with fully restored power were San Jose, Rosario, Allen, Lavazares, Victoria, San Antonio, San Vicente, and Biri; while those partially restored were Bobon, Capul, Catarman, Lope de Vega, Mondragon, San Isidro, Catubig, Gamay, Laoang, Lapinig, Las Navas, Mapanas, Palapag, Pambujan, San Roque, and Silvino Lobos, according to Northern Samar Electric Cooperative, Inc. (NORSAMELCO).

In Biliran, the Biliran Electric Cooperative, Inc. (BILECO) said restoration works were ongoing as of Wednesday to the remaining households affected by the typhoon. In Leyte, the Leyte II Electric Cooperative, Inc. (LEYECO II) said power in Tacloban City and Palo was already fully restored, while Babatngon was partially restored.

Meanwhile, the operations of Leyte III Electric Cooperative, Inc. (LEYECO III), Leyte IV Electric Cooperative, Inc. (LEYECO IV), Leyte V Electric Cooperative, Inc. (LEYECO V), and Southern Leyte Electric Cooperative, Inc. (SOLECO) have already returned to normal as of Wednesday.

In Bicol Region, power distribution services in Sorsogon and Camarines Sur were also back to normal, particularly in the coverage areas of Camarines Sur II Electric Cooperative, Inc. (CASURECO II), Camarines III Electric Cooperative, Inc. (CASURECO III), Sorsogon II Electric Cooperative (SORECO II) after experiencing interruptions due to the typhoon.

In Surigao del Norte province, the Surigao del Norte Electric Cooperative, Inc. (SURNECO) has fully restored power in Surigao City and the municipalities of Alegria, Bacuag, Claver, Gigaquit, Mainit, Malimono, Placer, San Francisco, Tagana-an, and Tubod; while power was partially restored in Sison.

In the province of Catanduanes, the First Catanduanes Electric Cooperative, Inc. (FICELCO) reported that power in the Municipality of Bato was fully restored, while the towns of Baras, Caramoran, Gigmoto, Panganiban, San Andres, San Miguel, Viga, and Virac were partially restored. Meanwhile, Bagamanoc and Pandan are for restoration.

In Surigao del Norte province, the Surigao del Norte Electric Cooperative, Inc. (SURNECO) has fully restored power in Surigao City and the municipalities of Alegria, Bacuag, Claver, Gigaquit, Mainit, Malimono, Placer, San Francisco, Tagana-an, and Tubod; while power was partially restored in Sison.

Meanwhile, electricity supply remained normal in the respective franchise areas of Dinagat Island Electric Cooperative, Inc. (DIELCO) and Siargao Electric Cooperative, Inc. (SIARELCO).
