Following the appeal made by the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) for blood donations amid the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) crisis, Senator Dick Gordon, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the PRC said the Department of National Defense (DND) has pledged to support the organization by conducting a mass blood donation of some 1,200 cadets of jthe Philippine Military Academy (PMA) in Baguio City.
Gordon said, he and DND Secretary Delfin Lorenzana had already discussed about the donation and he expressed gratitude for the department’s significant effort.
“There is no blood shortage yet, but we need to fill up the well.”
“In this time of crisis, we need teamwork and everybody carrying their load. There is no blood shortage yet, but we need to fill up the well so that we can continue to provide blood services to those in need,” the veteran legislator said.
The seasoned lawmaker stated earlier that the patients’ need for blood transfusions has not stop and there are persons in hospitals who badly need blood such as cancer patients, accident victims, and people with blood disorders.
The senator urged those who are willing to donate blood to contact the PRC 143 hotline or (+632) 8790-2300 for pre-assessment and schedule. Those in the provinces could contact the nearest PRC chapter for coordination.
“Your spirit of volunteerism and resilience will help out many in need,” he said.
