PH, THAILAND MARK 75 YEARS OF DIPLOMATIC TIES

In celebration of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Thailand, First Lady Liza Marcos, together with Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco and other Cabinet officials, graced the grand diplomatic gala event with the theme “Moving Forward to the New Era of Closer Friendship and Common Prosperity,” hosted by the Royal Thai Embassy, Manila at the Dusit Thani in Makati City recently.

“We stand at a remarkable juncture in history to celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Thailand. This extraordinary journey of friendship and cooperation has not only withstood the test of time but has flourished into a profound and enduring partnership, enriching both our nations in countless ways,” Frasco said.

“Over the past seven and a half decades, our countries have worked side by side, fostering ties across various sectors from trade and investment to culture and, of course, tourism,” the tourism chief added.

The tourism head also highlighted numerous projects that strengthen these ties, including air connectivity, trade and media familiarization trips, successful sales missions, and active participation in key travel fairs.

She acknowledged the active participation of the Thai Ambassador to the Philippines Tull Traisorat in the Department’s initiatives under President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s administration: the Philippine Experience Program, the Philippines-Thailand Bilateral Tourism Cooperation Academic Exchange Program, and Thailand’s support for the Philippines’ interest as the lead country coordinator for the ASEAN Tourism Strategic Plan post-2025.

Meanwhile, Traisorat added, “Amazing Thailand and Love The Philippines turn into an ‘Amazing Love’ that reinforces the love that reinforces the foundation for even closer cooperation in all dimensions.”

“Cheers to the next 75 years of partnership and prosperity between the Philippines and Thailand, and to this ‘Amazing Love’,” Frasco concluded in reference to the two countries’ tourism slogans.

Attendees included Department of Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo, Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, Supreme Court Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo, House Deputy Speaker Duke Frasco, other members of the diplomatic and consular corps, members of the House of Representatives, national tourism association heads, and distinguished guests. 

DOT officials included OIC Undersecretary Verna Buensuceso, OIC Assistant Secretary Judilyn Quiachon, Director Paulo Tugbang, Regional Director for NCR Sharlene Zabala-Batin, and Assistant Regional Director Cathy Agustin, also graced the event.
