PH RED CROSS SENDS WATER TANKER TO ZAMBOANGA CITY

Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Chairman and CEO Dick Gordon ordered the immediate deployment of an additional water tanker to help residents of Zamboanga City without access to clean water.

At the request of the PRC local chapter in Zamboanga City and the Zamboanga City Water District, Gordon sent an additional 12,000-liter water tanker to augment the 5,000-liter water tanker earlier deployed to help the people of Zamboanga City.

“We heard the plea of our fellowmen in Zamboanga City and we responded immediately.”

“We heard the plea of our fellowmen in Zamboanga City and we responded immediately. At 1am of April 4, PRC had distributed 87,000 liters of water to 5,797 families and 17,400 families,” said Gordon as he stressed the importance of adequate water supply.

“Limited access to water can cause serious health and sanitation problems among communities, particularly for children,” he stressed.

“Our volunteers and staff remain on the ground, working hand in hand to help the affected families.”

Areas served included Seaside, Seafront and Tres Maria at Baliwasan; and Katilingban and Kalinaw in Sinunuc; San Roque; San Jose Gusu, Guiwan, Canelar Moret, Campaner, and Sucabon. Other areas were served as well, including Upper Calarian and Tumbugan and Tumaga.

Dropping of water levels in major rivers, stemming from the ongoing dry spell caused by the El Niño phenomenon, affected the water supply in Zamboanga City and has left hundreds of families without access to clean water since March 13.
