PH RED CROSS OBSERVES NATIONAL CPR DAY

In celebration of the National CPR Day, the Philippine Red Cross conducted a simultaneous CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) demonstration, lecture, and CPR mannequin making at the PRC Logistics and Multi-purpose Center (PLMC).

Present at the event were PRC staff and volunteers, with representatives of its chapters nationwide attending via Zoom.

PRC Chairman and CEO Dick Gordon said knowledge of CPR gives people the power to save lives.

“Our current population is over 119 million and 70,000 people suffer from cardiac arrest.”

“We’re celebrating CPR Day by virtue of Proclamation 551. Our current population is over 119 million and 70,000 people suffer from cardiac arrest,” Gordon said.

“Nakakalungkot na 1 percent lang ang nabibigyan ng CPR. By learning CPR, you can be a hero because it gives you power. Once you learn CPR, you need to practice dahil kung wala kayong naituro, wala kayong natutunan,” he added said.

PRC Secretary-General Dr. Gwen Pang reiterated the important role bystanders play in saving lives.

“CPR given in the first four minutes of a case of cardiac arrest can increase [the victim’s] chances of survival.”

“CPR given in the first four minutes of a case of cardiac arrest can increase [the victim’s] chances of survival. Thus, immediate CPR is needed.” Pang stressed.

“PRC continues to raise awareness and call to action to achieve a CPR-Ready Philippines,” she added.

From 2017 to June 2024, the Red Cross, the country’s foremost humanitarian organization, has trained 995,929 CPR and first-aid providers.
