The Philippine government on Tuesday received the donations of the United Arab Emirates government for the victims of typhoon Carina.
The turnover ceremony, which took place Tuesday night at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2, was witnessed by Special Envoy to the United Arab Emirates for Trade and Investments, Ma. Anna Kathryna Yu-Pimentel, Secretary Rex Gatchalian of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Interior Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr., UAE Ambassador Mohamed Obaid Alqattam, and Reichel Quiñones, Chief of Presidential Protocol and Presidential Assistant on Foreign Affairs.
“This generous donation from the UAE government is a testament to the deepening bilateral relations between the UAE and the Philippines under the leadership of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.”
The donations consist of 2,464 packs or bags of 900-gram milk powder, 5-kg wheat flour, 400-gram tea powder, 5-kg rice, 1.5-ltr cooking oil, 1-kg red lentils, 1-kg peas, 1-kg dates, 375-mg tang powder, 500-gram oats, 850-mg tomato paste, 2-kg sugar, and 1-kg salt. The donations also include 4,928 packs and cans of 400-gram pasta, 400-gram sweet corn, 400-gram green peas, 400-gram red kidney, 400-gram madames, and 9,856 cans of 170-gram tuna and chickpeas.
Yu-Pimentel expressed the country’s gratitude to the UAE leadership, particularly His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE President; Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister; and Ambassador Alqattam.
“This generous donation from the UAE government is a testament to the deepening bilateral relations between the UAE and the Philippines under the leadership of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.,” Yu-Pimentel said.
“We are profoundly grateful to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the UAE government for their unwavering support in this trying time,” Yu-Pimentel added.
Yu-Pimentel said the recent visit of First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos to the UAE further solidified the strong ties between the two countries.
“We thank PBBM for his decisive leadership and swift action to help our countrymen,” Yu-Pimentel said.
In its latest bulletin, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said typhoon Carina, tropical depression Butchoy, and habagat affected 3,628,500 individuals or 971,667 families.
