With the prospect of no face-to-face classes for the next school year still looming, a group advocating for quality education is hosting a webinar featuring Education Secretary Leonor Briones on what the country should expect for the school year 2021-2022.
The Philippine Educators Alliance for Community Empowerment (PEACE) Party-list will hold the “SY 2021-2022: What to Expect?” webinar on June 9, aimed at briefing educators and other stakeholders on the pressing issues that will dominate the re-opening of classes.
“Through this webinar, we are hoping to bridge the gap between the government and our educators and provide a venue for discussing the most pressing concerns surrounding the education sector,” PEACE Party-list President Maria Paz T. Abante said.
Abante said among the top concerns they hope would be tackled are improvements to gaps identified in the implementation of the remote learning system during the past year, as well as the resumption of face-to-face classes.
“Nagdusa hindi lamang ang ating mga estudyante, kundi pati na rin ang mga educators at iba pang school staff dahil sa pagpapatupad ng bagong sistema. Mahalagang mapunan natin ang mga butas at mapabuti ang sistema para masiguro ang kalidad ng edukasyon na natatanggap ng kabataan,” Abante said.
These gaps include not only the difficulties arising from poor connectivity and the distribution of learning materials, but also issues that teachers and other school personnel have encountered to implement the remote learning system.
She also expressed hope that as the government intensifies the rollout of the national vaccination program, the vaccination of children would also be prioritized.
The return to face-to-face classes “can only be considered if students are also included in the vaccination priority list,” Abante added.
The event will be the first of a series of webinars about education. On June 23, the “Church-School Ministries: How to get recognized?” webinar will be held, while “The ABCs of Home Schooling” will be discussed on July 17.
PEACE Party-list advocates for the welfare of every Filipino educator, and to empower communities through values education and formation of students and families.
Its legislative agenda includes the pasage of the Magna Carta for Educators, Magna Carta for Non-Formal Educators, Educators Family Living Wage Act, Tax Incentives and other Benefits for Educators and their Families, among others.
