Senator Sonny Angara has filed a resolution congratulating and commending Senator Manny Pacquiao for successfully defending the World Boxing Association (WBA) welterweight championship title against American boxer Adrien Broner in Las Vegas.
In Senate Resolution No. 997, Angara said the 40-year-old boxing legend exhibited “discipline, determination and experience” to win 10 out of 12 rounds despite being 11 years older than Broner.
The seasoned legislator said that with this recent performance, the Filipino sports icon proved to boxing fans and critics that the “Manny Pacquiao journey will still continue.”

“This recent win by the 40-year-old Filipino fighting senator is not only another layer in his future hall of fame legacy,” the veteran lawmaker added in the resolution he filed. “It also serves as an inspiration to all Filipinos that–with enough determination and perseverance–all of us can be world class talents.”
Pacquiao outclassed the 29-year-old Broner with a unanimous decision victory. judge Dave Moretti scored the fight 117-111, while judges Tim Cheatham and Glen Feldman both scored 116-112 in favor of the senator, who now has a record of 61 wins with 39 knockouts.
Shortly after Paquiao was declared winner, Angara issued a statement congratulating his fellow senator on his latest victory.
“Congratulations, Senator Manny! Thank you for bringing never ending joy and pride to your kababayans all over the world. Once again, you have proven that you are indeed one of the greatest boxers of all time,” the senator’s statement read.

Pacquiao is chair of the Senate Committee on Sports while Angara is the vice chair.
