NOGRALES LAUDS  SIGNING OF ‘EDDIE GARCIA’ LAW

Rizal 4th District Rep. Fidel Nograles on Thursday lauded the signing into law of the Eddie Garcia Act by Pres. Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.

“Nagagalak tayo na sa wakas, pagkatapos ng ilang taon na pagsisikap ay napirmahan na ang Eddie Garcia Act. Malaking tagumpay ito para sa mga manggagawa sa movie and television industry,” Nograles, who chairs the House Committee on Labor and Employment said.

The solon expressed hope that with the law’s enactment, work-related accidents and abuses in the tv and movie industry would be eliminated.

Republic Act No. 11996, which Pres. Marcos signed on May 24, mandates the implementation of work hours, wages and other wage-related benefits, social security and welfare services, basic necessities, health and safety, working conditions and standards and insurance to ensure workers’ welfare.

The law is aimed at providing better protection for workers of the movie and television industry, Nograles said.

“This law will require employers to provide workers or contractors a copy of a contract stating the number of work hours, job position and description, period of employment, details of compensation and other conditions that will affect the person’s work,” the lawmaker said.

They will also be required to adhere to all laws related to workers’ occupational safety and health standards and provide all workers with government-mandated benefits, Nograles added.

The solon expressed hope that with the law’s enactment, work-related accidents and abuses in the tv and movie industry would be eliminated.

He also urged the whole industry to comply with the said law.

“Let us place more value in our workers, without whom the industry would not thrive. Itaguyod po natin ang kapakanan ng mga manggagawa, nang mas maayos silang makapagtrabaho. Sama-sama dapat sa pag-usad, walang iwanan,” said Nograles.
