Farmers in La Union celebrated with gratitude as the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU), under the leadership of Governor Rafy Ortega-David, took a stride to increase their profit by providing additional P5.00 incentives in every kilo of palay sold on top of the current government support price at P19.00 per kilo.
This was the result of the adaptation and implementation of the Palay Marketing Assistance program for Legislators and Local Government Units (PALLGU) in the province, made possible through a Memorandum of Agreement between Ortega-David and the National Food Authority (NFA).
“The farming community that plays an integral role in La Union’s economic growth.”
The lady governor emphasized the importance of PALLGU in supporting the farming community that plays an integral role in the province’s economic growth.
“I believe that empowering and investing in farmers are key steps toward realizing La Union’s vision of becoming the Heart of Agri-Tourism in Northern Luzon by 2025,” she stressed.
As of October 5, 2023, a total of P8.3 million has been allocated and disbursed to local farmers through the PALLGU program, further demonstrating the PGLU’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of its agricultural sector.
Ortega-David is initiating another PALLGU MOA, securing an additional allocation of P20 million that will enable more farmers to benefit from the increased rice price premium.
