The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has recently fixed two road sections with potholes and uneven carriageway, thanks to concerned citizens who reported the road damage through social media.
DPWH Secretary Mark Villar said that the Department’s social media accounts on Facebook and Twitter which are also used as platforms for citizens engagement have received feedback on damaged pavement along Maharlika Highway in Tacloban City and along Mel Lopez Boulevard formerly R-10 in the City of Manila.
“DPWH’s social media accounts on Facebook and Twitter are used as platforms for citizens’ engagement.”
A concerned individual reported that the uneven road surface of an asphalt layer to a widened concrete road is an accident-prone spot at Maharlika Highway, specifically after a checkpoint station in Imelda Village, Tacloban City.
The road was urgently repaired by the DPWH Tacloban City District Engineering Office by installing an asphalt transition on the carriageway.
Another report that was attended to was a complaint on roadway noise and ground shaking from trucks passing along Mel Lopez Boulevard formerly R-10 in Tondo, Manila which according to the complainant is aggravated by road potholes in the area.
Right after receiving the report, the DPWH North Manila District Engineering Office coordinated with local government units and immediately deployed a maintenance team to conduct repair of the potholes.
According to Villar, for similar concerns, the public may reach the DPWH Stakeholders Relations Service at Hotline 165-02, Viber at 0961-684-7084, or through the official DPWH social media pages: www.facebook.com/dpwhph or @DPWHph.
“The public may also send queries/complaints directly to the DPWH Regional Offices nationwide which are also available on Facebook.”
