NCR MAYORS BACK CALL FOR PNP EXECS’ RESIGNATIONS

The Metro Manila Council (MMC) issued a resolution expressing support to the appeal of the Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos, Jr. for the courtesy resignation of the high-ranking officials of the Philippine National Police as part of its internal cleansing campaign.

Based on the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Resolution No. 23-01, the MMC calls for filing of courtesy resignations of all PNP senior officials and officers as soon as possible.

“As a manifestation of their professionalism and patriotism, all PNP colonels and generals must immediately tender their courtesy resignation.”

“As a manifestation of their professionalism and patriotism, all PNP colonels and generals must immediately tender their courtesy resignation in order to preserve and protect the credibility of the police organization and remove any and all doubts on its public reputation and stature,” cited in a one-page resolution.

“As public officials, the police must, at all times, be accountable to the people and uphold their sworn duty to serve and protect.”

MMDA Acting Chairman Atty. Romando Artes said that as public officials, the police must, at all times, be accountable to the people and uphold their sworn duty to serve and protect.

“The Metro Manila mayors are one with DILG Secretary Abalos’ call to restore public trust to the PNP that is one of the agencies leading the country’s war against illegal drugs,” Artes said.

Abalos made the appeal recently in a press conference aimed at weeding out officials of the police force who are involved in the illegal drug trade.

Some top officials of the PNP have heeded the call and tendered their courtesy resignation.

The MMC, consisting of local chief executives of the metropolis, is the policy and governing body of the MMDA.
