MUÑOZ CITY TO GET PHILMEC RICE PROCESSING SYSTEM

The Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PHilMech) signed a memorandum of agreement with the local government unit (LGU) of Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija, for the establishment of the Rice Processing System (RPS) 2 under the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (RCEF) Mechanization Program.

The LGU will receive P61.4 million worth of postharvest facilities, equipped with two units of 12-ton recirculating dryers and a 2-3 ton/hour multi-pass rice mill. 

PHilMech Director III Joel Dator, led the MOA signing together with Science City of Muñoz Mayor Baby Armi Alvarez. 

“Layunin ng RPS na bigyan ng karagdagang kita ang mga magsasaka mula sa pagpoproseso at pangangalakal ng de-kalidad na bigas at mga produkto nito,” Alvarez explained.

“Layon din nitong pababain ang porsyento ng mga natatapos o nasasayang na butyl sa makatapos-ani at pagandahin ang kalidad ng giniling na bigas.”

PHilMech former OIC Assistant Director Dr. Ofero Capariño, PHilMech FMFOD Acting Chief Engr. May Ville Castro, Muñoz City Agriculturist Dr. Jerry Rigos, and Villar SIPAG Representative Engr. Jaypee De Guzman were also present to witness and show support for the agreement. 

“To date, 42 beneficiaries of RPS 2 have already been identified.”

Dator shared that to date, 42 beneficiaries of RPS 2 have already been identified, including the Muñoz City.

PHilMech has also delivered P79.14 million worth of rice technologies in the city, benefiting 20 farmers’ cooperatives and associations (FCAs).
