MMDA, SAN JUAN CITY SIGN LINEAR PARK AGREEMENT

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and San Juan City government signed a Memorandum of Agreement [MOA] for the neighborhood upgrading project along the San Juan River easement.

Indicated in the MOA are the initiatives of MMDA and San Juan City for the development of a linear park applying nature-based solutions.

Among the park’s notable features are rain gardens, rainwater cisterns, and filtration systems that are designed to collect rain water.

Apart from the linear park, the MMDA also proposed the construction of a Sewage Treatment Plan (STP) and mechanized trash traps in the neighborhood project to help complement the development of the linear park.

“The development of a linear park applying nature-based solutions exemplifies the dedication to addressing flooding and enhancing sustainability.”

According to MMDA Chairman Atty. Don Artes, the development of a linear park applying nature-based solutions (NBS) exemplifies the dedication to addressing flooding and enhancing sustainability.

“Nature-based solutions represent a paradigm shift in urban planning and development, where we can collaborate with nature rather than against it.” Artes said.

Meanwhile, Mayor Francis Zamora, for his part, thanked the MMDA for the project aimed at cleaning up and improving the spaces at San Juan.

“Our goal is to create more open spaces for the San Juaneños.”

“We are thrilled to undertake another beautification project with the MMDA, particularly one that will significantly enhance the appearance of our linear park in Barangay Batis. Our goal is to create more open spaces for the San Juaneños,” Zamora said.

These initiatives serve as a testament to the unwavering commitment of the MMDA and the City of San Juan to the new era of innovative and sustainable solutions that address the challenges of urban living.
