MANILA’S TONDO SPORTS COMPLEX 38% COMPLETE

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is on track to complete the second phase of Bagong Tondo Sports Complex Project in Manila by the first quarter of 2024.

DPWH National Capital Region Director Loreta Malaluan, in her report to DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan, said that Phase 2 of the project is 38 percent complete, a significant improvement since it began civil works in April 2023.

The DPWH North Manila District Engineering Office under the leadership of District Engineer Gerard Opulencia, is fast tracking civil works to ensure the timely completion of the Phase 2 by March 2024.

The second phase of the project involves the construction of superstructures which includes column, beams and suspended slab per floors. 

Also included in the contract amounting P133 million are the electrical works, fire protection, plumbing and sewer works, finishing works and installation of lighting fixtures and air-conditioning.

The project’s Phase 1 costing P82.02 million was implemented in 2021. It covered the construction of foundation and substructures of the building including footing, pilecap, and micropiles.

An additional P10 Million will be needed to complete the entire Tondo Sports Complex. The amount was the proposed allocation under Phase 3 covering site development.

When completed, the sports complex will feature a gym, a multi-purpose open space, an indoor basketball court, and a conference room.

When completed, the sports complex with a total floor area of 3,360 square meters will feature a gym, a multi-purpose open space, an indoor basketball court, and a conference room. It is seen to cater various athletic and recreational activities in the area.

“A new Tondo Sports Complex with complete facilities will be able to bring together people with shared interests, and encourage an active and healthy lifestyle to the residents,” Malaluan concluded.
