MANILA TO DECLARE AUGUST 4 AS CARLOS YULO DAY

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna said city hall will have a separate brief program to present the city’s P2 million cash incentives to two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo on August 19.

Lacuna said she will also present the city’s P500,000 cash incentive for Olympian pole vaulter Ernest John Obiena much earlier because Obiena is scheduled to go overseas.

“Uunahin natin ‘yung kay EJ kasi dahil nung magkausap kami ay paalis nanaman siya. Tapos ‘yung kay Carlos Yulo ay magaganap sa Monday kasi punung-puno yung schedule ni Carlos Yulo. Nasa akin na po (ang tseke), iaabot ko na lang,” the lady mayor explained.

“The Carlos Yulo Day for the City of Manila being planned will be a working holiday.”

She clarified that the Carlos Yulo Day for the City of Manila being planned will be a working holiday and the date chosen is August 4 because that is when Carlos Yulo won his first gold medal.

Lacuna said the city council is working on the resolution now and hopes it will be ready before Monday next week.

“The Philippines is on its way to becoming a global sports powerhouse.”

In a separate statement, she earlier said: “We just had our best Olympics. Let us all savor this historic moment. The Philippines is on its way to becoming a global sports powerhouse.”

“This is the time for solidarity, focus, and preparations for future Olympics and world championships. Let us look at the totality of what all our Olympians and their coaches and support community accomplished. They set new records. Many made their Olympic debut. Just being there in Paris meant they are among the best in the entire world. May this moment spur massive investments in the sports sector because our athletes need higher allowances while they train, better equipment, and more accessible training facilities not just here in the National Capital Region, but in strategic locations nationwide,” Lacuna concluded.
