Former Maguindanao Rep. Zajid “Dong” Mangudadatu has vowed to actively campaign for Aksyon Demokratiko standard-bearer and Manila Mayor Isko Moreno in Mindanao to improve his chances of winning the presidency in the May 9 elections.
Addressing his almost half a million followers on Facebook over the weekend, Mangudadatu urged his supporters to vote for the dynamic 47-year-old local chief executive, saying only a Moreno victory can guarantee the continuity of the gains made under the Duterte administration.
Aksyon Demokratiko chairman Ernest Ramel said Moreno’s alliance with the Mangudadatu clan, led by Dong and his brother, incumbent Maguindanao 2nd District Rep. Esmael “Toto” Mangudadatu, will play a big role in boosting his presidential bid in Mindanao when he visits the South.
Mangudadatu, who is running to reclaim his congressional seat representing the 2nd district of Maguindanao, and who ran for senator under administration party PDP-Laban in 2019, is also campaigning for the vice-presidential bid of incumbent Davao City Mayor and presidential daughter Inday Sara Duterte.
An Isko-Sara tandem, the administration stalwart said, will be a dream team not only for the people of Mindanao but for the country. The legislator from Mindanao is the head of the MagkaISSA movement which was launched last month to ensure the victory of the two charismatic leaders.
“Mga kababayan, naniniwala ako na ISSA will be an unbeatable team kaya doon tayo sa dalawa,” he said, adding that the Manila mayor is soon to visit Mindanao to present his 10-point economic agenda anchored on his Bilis Kilos platform.
“Makikita nyo na rin si Yorme dito soon at kasama ako sa kanyang paglilibot,” he assured his followers.

Maguindanao, which has a voting population of 766,497 as of 2019, is the most populous province in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). Sultan Kudarat, on the other hand, has 452,000 registered voters.
“I think it’s a huge factor. Alam naman natin na dalawang probinsya yung kanilang kinakampanyahan. Yung asawa niya ay nasa Sultan Kudarat and I believe she’s already unopposed. At ‘yun din naman ‘yung impluwensya ni former governor and now congressman Toto Mangudadatu na babalik bilang gobernador,” Ramel said during a press briefing at the Isko Moreno for President Campaign Headquarters in Intramuros on Monday.
“Malalaki yung kanilang sway, in fact meron silang sariling partido doon, local party na ikinakampanya si Mayor Isko,” he added.
The incumbent Maguindanao solon and his wife Sharifa Akeel, who is running for governor in Sultan Kudarat, expressed their full support to Moreno’s presidential bid during his proclamation rally on February 8.
