The city government of Lapu-Lapu in Cebu has launched its free coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) swab testing for city residents.
Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan said that the goal of the mass testing is to know whether the city is now coronavirus-free.
“The goal of the mass testing is to know whether the island city is now coronavirus-free.”
The city’s health workers have earlier tested public utility vehicle drivers and public market vendors as economic activity slowly resumes here.
“Of the 7,000 drivers and vendors who underwent the swab testing, only a few tested positive so Oponganons are assured that our cases have really gone down,” Chan said in Cebuano.
The mayor urged residents to voluntarily have themselves tested.
The city government has scheduled at least 12 free swab testing activities this November at the basketball gyms of various barangays.
Villagers in Pusok were the first to undergo testing on Nov. 9 while residents of Marigondon are tested on Nov. 10; Gun-ob on Nov. 11; Pajo on Nov. 12; Looc on Nov. 13; Mactan on Nov. 16; Babag on Nov. 17; Basak on Nov. 18; Bankal on Nov. 19; Agus on Nov. 23; Calawisan on Nov. 24; and Basak on Nov. 26.

He further urged city residents to remain cautious against the virus and follow the minimum health standards such as wearing face mask and shield, observing social distancing and disinfecting.
As of Nov. 9, Lapu-Lapu City’s active cases stood at 60, with one new case recorded on Monday.
