Manila is preparing for what the PAGASA has said is a strong La Niña following the current strong El Niño.
Mayor Honey Lacuna said the city has acquired and installed weather instruments needed for localized weather forecasts, while Congressman Joel Chua has been inspecting esteros and flood control projects in Manila’s Third District.
“We now have an automated weather station in Manila.”
“We now have an automated weather station in Manila. The AWS was acquired and installed to give us evidence-based data for informed decisions on disaster risk reduction and management measures. The AWS information is in addition to the guidance we keep getting from PAGASA daily,” Lacuna explained.
“On the ground at the barangay level, our waste management measures continue to reduce the volume of garbage that goes into the esteros and lingers on the streets. Barangays have been reminded to clear the esteros to reduce the disastrous effects of floods in the rainy season,” the lady mayor added.
Meanwhile, Chua has made the rounds of some District 3 barangays to check on pumping stations along the Estero dela Reina in Sta. Cruz, Manila.
He conducted the esteros inspection along with DPWH Engineer Gerald Opulencia and several barangay chairpersons.
