The institutionalization of Misamis Oriental’s “Kuyamis Festival” passed the committee level in the House of Representatives.
Misamis Oriental 2nd District Rep. Yevgeny Vincente Emano said his proposed House Bill (HB) 4613 has been approved by the Committee on Local Government and will be set for a second hearing at the plenary session.
The Kuyamis Festival, is a celebration acknowledging Misamis Oriental’s “Kuyamis” variety of golden coconuts.
The HB, known as the proposed “Misamis Oriental Kuyamis Festival Act,” aims to be an official festival of the province and is to be celebrated annually.
Once it becomes law, its fund will be sourced from the Internal Revenue Allotment of the province as well as other sources such as donations and contributions from the private sector.
“If things go as planned, this will continue the pending infrastructure projects in the province.”
The Kuyamis Festival is a celebration acknowledging Misamis Oriental’s “Kuyamis” variety of golden coconuts, was created when Emano was governor in 2014.
During the distribution of the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) with Senator Bong Go in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental, Emano said he proposed a P4 billion worth of infrastructure project fund for the province in the 2023 General Appropriations budget.
“If things go as planned, this will continue the pending infrastructure projects in the province, some of them have already started (before leaving as governor), and we want to see these projects completed soon,” the legislator said.
Meanwhile, the lawmaker said his office has proposed an additional budget of P5 million for recipients of SLP under the province.
“We will also ask other senators, so they can add funds and more recipients will be given because the payout is in bulk,” he said.
