“Patuloy po natin na sama-samang pagtulungan na iligtas, dagdagan ng proteksyon ang bawat mamamayan sa lungsod at sa buong bansa, simula bata hanggang matanda. Welcome po ang lahat sa Maynila.”
This was stressed by Manila Mayor and presidential aspirant Isko Moreno, who on Monday opened the city’s vaccination program for children from 5 to 11 years old at the newly renovated Manila Zoo, as part of the national campaign to inoculate more Filipinos against the highly transmissible COVID-19.
Moreno thanked the DOH and the National Task Force on COVID-19 for the allocation of specially formulated Pfizer vaccines for children to the city government.
In his remarks, Moreno expressed hope that the vaccination of the targeted 15 million kids within the age bracket would help expedite the country’s return to normalcy and bring about the end of the two-year pandemic.
He renewed his call to parents and guardians to have their children vaccinated for the latter’s protection and assured them that vaccines are the safest way to protect them against COVID-19 based on studies of medical experts and the global scientific community.
The vaccination of children has also been endorsed by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Department of Health (DOH), explained the Aksyon Demokratiko standard-bearer.

Per the latest data from the Manila City Government, 117.26% of the city’s population is fully vaccinated, with a total of 3.2 million vaccine doses administered in Manila. The local government under Moreno has surpassed 100% because non-residents have been allowed to get their vaccines in Manila.
Present during the opening were Health Secretary Francisco Duque, Interior and Local Government Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya, UNICEF representative to the Philippines Oyunsaikhan Dendevnorov, Moreno’s vice presidential running mate Dr. Wifredo Ong, Manila Rep. Yul Servo, and Manila Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna.
