Manila Mayor Isko Moreno drew praise from entrepreneurs and cooperative members in Cebu after being the first presidential aspirant to reach out to the country’s second largest cooperative.
Around 50 representatives from various cooperatives in the country attended the assembly at the meeting hall of the Cebu CFI Cooperative.
The Cebu CFI Cooperative was started by Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia’s mother Judge Esperanza Fiel Garcia in 1970 as a credit union to help her employees at the Court of First Instance of Cebu. The cooperative started with 26 members and P200 as initial capital.
Moreno congratulated the officers and members of the Cebu CFI Cooperative for serving as the lifeline of its members by providing quick credit for business, education and health services.
“I was inspired by your story and your perseverance so that things can be changed. Things can be done. Pero dahil sa pagpupursige, ngayon, 150K members na,” he said.
Should he be elected president, the 47-year-old mayor vowed to prioritize health and livelihood programs in the first two years of his term to expedite the country’s economic recovery from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
If you really care for your people, di mo kailangan mag sugarcoat. You fight for them. That’s how you serve,” Moreno said.
