“Lahat ng ‘Build, Build, Build’ nya, itutuloy natin yan. Pero ako, may ‘Build, Build, Build’ din; we will extend it to include ‘Build, Build, Build’ on housing, on schools, on hospitals.”
This was the commitment made by Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, who reiterated his plan to build on the infrastructure projects already started by the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte.
In two years as Manila Mayor, Moreno has broken ground on six major housing projects. These include (1) Basecommunity, (2) Tondominium 1 and 2, (3) Binondominium, (4) San Lazaro Residences, (5) Pedro Gil Residences, and (6) San Sebastian Residences.
Speaking on Thursday to Mabalacat, Pampanga local officials led by Mayor Crisostomo Garbo, the Aksyon Demokratiko presidential candidate stressed that his Build, Build, Build program would focus on hospitals, housing projects, public school buildings, and businesses to create more jobs.

Completed in July 2021, Basecommunity is an in-city public housing project in the Baseco, Port area with 229 two-story, 42 square-meter housing units. The townhouse-style units––each has two bedrooms, a dining room, a kitchen, a bathroom, and a living room––have already been awarded to their intended recipients, most of whom lost their homes in a fire that broke out in the area in February 2020.
Tondominium 1 and 2, on the other hand, should be completed before end of 2021. The two projects, located in Tondo, include two residential buildings that have a total of 336 two-bedroom apartment units, each with a size of 44 square meters.
Binondominium, slated for completion in January 2022, is a 15-story residential building along Delpan Street in Binondo intended for informal settlers; 126 families are expected to benefit from the project.
San Lazaro Residences is a project that will benefit 382 families. Aside from the 382 housing units, the project includes a swimming pool, a health center, and a public health laboratory.

Another project that recently broke ground in August 2021 is Pedro Gil Residences, a 20-story building in San Andres Bukid, which will benefit informal settlers in the capital. The project includes 309 residential units, a health center, and a swimming pool. San Sebastian Residences also recently broke ground in September 2021. The low-cost housing project will have 243 residential units, each with a size of 40 square meters.
The former scavenger from Tondo has frequently emphasized the importance of low-cost housing, and has regularly referred to a lesson he learned from his mother, who often told him in Waray, “aso nga naghahanap ng masisilungan kapag umuulan, tao pa kaya?”
