HEY, WEARY HEART! CHRISTMAS IS AROUND THE CORNER

Can you hear the Christmas bells ringing? Even though we might not see girls and boys selling lanterns on the street due to the pandemic; there is no reason not to celebrate one of the happiest seasons of the year.

Today is the last Thursday of the year before we enter the ‘Ber’ months again. Though it might not be a big thing for other countries, here in the Philippines, it signals the start of one of the longest Christmas seasons in the world.

Globally, the undeniable effects of the COVID-19 pandemic continue to change our way of living. Despite medical breakthroughs with the arrival of vaccines, the global health crisis does not seem to look like it will end anytime soon. However, we can stay positive and hopeful in the season of peace and giving.

Christmas brings not only the crisp air and joyous feeling; it also offers some semblance of comfort that everything will eventually be okay. It is the season where faith and forgiveness flourish. Christmas can be our source of strength and order in a time of global unrest – a time to give ourselves a chance to smile and feel the warmth of the season.

We might not get to celebrate with our loved ones like how we used to. We might not see the view of jolly people giving gifts and exchanging cards just like what Jose Mari Chan describes. Things might not be the same now but know that this is temporary. Celebrate Christmas the safest way possible. We owe it to ourselves to enjoy the season that keeps on giving.

Season of hope

We may be entering the season of hope with heavy hearts, but we must take ourselves back to the very reason why we celebrate it in the first place – the good news. The birth of Jesus Christ is the ultimate best news humanity has received – that despite the struggles and challenges we are facing and will continue to face, good news has come. Good news will come.

It could either be in the face of someone we hold dear. It could be through the simple joy of having to spend time with friends and family, better health, or abundance. But most importantly, we should celebrate the good news of Christmas that we are stronger together in the face of adversity; despite our hardships, there are people tirelessly working towards our healing.

We see hope through the face of our healthcare workers, the people who serve us in the restaurants and supermarkets, and the unfailing happiness and dedication of the people who deliver us food and other essentials. We should celebrate that they are there and that you are still here, too. Celebrate Christmas by offering kindness to you and the people around you. Be kind and carry on.

Regardless of privilege, Christmas should be celebrated by everyone, especially in a time when peace and hope are waning down. Celebrate it in your own safe way, and never forget to pat yourself on the back for not ceasing to move forward. Extend that gratitude to the people close to you, up to the strangers you encounter every day. Kindness and compassion is the best gift we could offer each other in times of uncertainty.

Rest your heart

We may never know what the future holds or when we will fully heal from this health crisis, but we know, for sure, that there is no reason not to celebrate every wins we can take. It will never be easy, but it will get better. We can rest our weary hearts through the Christmas season, knowing that it is done in Jesus’ name. After all, didn’t He leave us with a gift of peace of mind and heart? Don’t be troubled and afraid.

IKOT.PH wishes you and your family, in advance, a Happy Holiday! Let us welcome the season of giving on a high note!
