Hans Sy, Chairman of SM Prime Holdings Inc., has been named as an adopted son of Bacolod City.
Bacolod City Mayor Albee Benitez welcomed Sy who was also granted title of Honorary Mayor for one day.
“Today, we proudly confer the title of Adopted Son and Honorary Mayor of Bacolod to Mr. Han Sy, whose contributions have significantly helped shape our city’s progress,” Benitez said. Welcome to the City of Smiles, Mr. Han Sy!”

Under Resolution 948 series of 2024, Sy was proudly named as an adopted son of Bacolod, and was granted the title of being an Honorary Mayor for his efforts towards Bacolod’s economic growth, and his commitment to sustainable development to the community.
Sy’s visionary leadership, societal engagements and, philanthropy were highlighted as his generous contribution and help towards the city of Bacolod.
“I would like to thank Hon. Hans T. Sy for his unwavering commitment to Bacolod’s growth,” Benitez said.

In his acceptance speech, Sy emphasized that Bacolod always had a special place in his heart, and praised the Bacolod people for being cultured, fun loving, food loving, and loyal to friends and family.
He stressed his commitment to continue supporting Bacolod’s growth through business, education, tourism, job generation, and his personal advocacy of sustainability and disaster prevention.
After the conferment, Benitez warmly welcomed Sy in the Mayor’s Office where he sat down as an official Honorary Mayor.
Sy and Benitez shared laughs and thanked him for his efforts in the economic growth and development of Bacolod through a token of appreciation.
