Former Special Assistant to the President (SAP) Bong Go reminded athletes in Dipolog City to stay away from drugs as he vowed to support the development of sports in the country.
Go graced the opening rites of the Mayor Darel Dexter T. Uy Inter-Barangay Basketball Cup and Inter-Barangay Volleyball Tournament at the Dipolog Sports Events Center.
“Pakiusap lang, layuan nyo ang droga, magbasketball na lang kayo. Wag nyong susubukan ang droga dahil pag na involve kayo sa droga, isang paa nyo nasa hukay na,” the former presidential aide said, noting the popular illegal drugs shabu contains chemicals that will cause brain damage.
At the same time, Go said the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte supports sports development, particularly the effort to discover new talents who could be trained as world-class athletes.
“The administration of President Rodrigo Duterte support sports development.”
“Kami ni Pangulong Duterte, sinusuportahan namin ang mga athletes, lalo na yung mga mga potential,” Go said. In running for the Senate, he has identified long-term sports development as one of his priorities in his legislative agenda.
As part of this agenda, Go proposes the creation of sports and youth development centers in every local government unit nationwide where the youth could avail of free sports trainings and the use of sports equipment, among others. In addition, he wants to strengthen grassroots sports development program.
Go noted that being involved in sports will also educate the youth on the values of discipline, sportsmanship and teamwork. He added that sports and youth development will also mold our children to become productive citizens that can contribute to their communities.
“Being involved in sports will teach the youth values of discipline, sportsmanship and teamwork.”
“Ginagawa natin ito para mabigyan ng magandang kinabukasan ang ating mga anak,” Go stressed.
He bared that his love for sports can be traced back to his youth when he became an avid fan of basketball, with Philippine Basketball Association legend Fortunato “Atoy” Co as one of his idols.
When the audience said they are satisfied with the administration of President Duterte, Go vowed he would continue to support the programs and policies of the administration, particularly the fight against crime, corruption and illegal drugs.
“Ipagpapatuloy ko po ang pagbabagong nasimulan ni Pangulong Duterte. Galit si Pangulong Duterte sa mga kriminal, galit din ako sa kriminal. Galit si Pangulong Duterte sa mga corrupt na opisyal, galit din ako sa corrupt. Galit si Pangulong Duterte sa mga durugista, galit din po ako sa durugista,” he said.
Go said he would serve the Filipino people in the same manner he served President Duterte, adding “Bisyo ko na po ang magserbisyo.”
“Minsan lang po tayo daraan sa mundong ito kaya anumang pwede mong gawin para sa kapwa mo ay gawin mo na dahil hindi na tayo babalik sa landas na ito. Wala po kaming ibang hangarin ni Pangulong Duterte kundi kabutihan ninyo dahil mahal namin kayo,” he said.
Go also pushes for improved access to quality health care through a law that would institutionalize the Malasakit Center, which makes it easier and faster for poor patients to avail of medical and financial assistance from the government by bringing together in one room all concerned agencies such as Department of Health, the Department of Social Welfare and Development, the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office and Philhealth.
Other components of his legislative agenda include agriculture, anti-illegal drugs and criminality, education, housing, long-term sports development, localized peace talks fire protection and prevention, anti-corruption, barangay welfare, creation of a Department of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and improved benefits for senior citizens.
