Advocating that every Filipino youth gets the opportunity to have proper education, Senator Bong Go personally witnessed the turnover and blessing of a new building in Community College of Gingoog City in Misamis Oriental.
The funding for the said infrastructure was advocated by Go as Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance.
In his speech, the legislator maintained that he will continue to support and develop measures and programs that would benefit the country’s education sector, underscoring that education is key to a better future.
“Sinuportahan ko po talaga ang pagpapagawa ng building na ito dahil naniniwala talaga ako na ang edukasyon ang susi sa magandang kinabukasan.”

“Good facilities and good infrastructure can significantly contribute to good school outcomes. Kaya naman palagi akong sumusuporta sa mga ganitong klaseng inisyatibo dahil ito naman po ay para sa ating mga kabataan. This is my own small way of encouraging our Filipino children to study and finish their studies so that they will be productive members of your community in the future,” the senator added.
In line with his efforts to assist struggling students nationwide, Go and his team provided assistance to 750 students who were present during the event. Among the items given were grocery packs, masks, vitamins, shirts, and meals.
They also gave away bicycles, cellular phones, shoes, caps, watches, and balls for basketball and volleyball to select beneficiaries.
“As Chair sa Committee on Sports (sa Senado), gusto ko ipagpatuloy ang kampanya ni (dating) pangulong (Rodrigo) Duterte noon na labanan ang kriminalidad at ilegal na droga. Kaya ine-engganyo ko ang kabataan to get into sports, stay away from drugs. Ilayo natin ang kabataan sa ilegal na droga kaya namimigay ako ng bola sa inyo dito,” he stressed.
“Ang mga inisyatibong tulad nito (ay) nakakatulong sa mga kabataan. Alam n’yo kapag tinutukan natin ang edukasyon, natututukan rin natin ang kabataan na ilayo sila sa ilegal na droga. Tumutok na lang sa edukasyon,” Go added.
Furthermore, the Department of Social Welfare and Development gave away financial assistance to each indigent student.
He also reminded the youths to remain focused on their studies.
“Nakikiusap ako sa mga kabataan na mag-aral kayo nang mabuti at iyan po ang puhunan natin, edukasyon.”
“Para sa akin, ang kabataan ang pag-asa ng ating bayan. Kaya ako naman po ay nakikiusap ako sa mga kabataan na mag-aral kayo nang mabuti at iyan po ang puhunan natin, edukasyon,” Go appealed.
“Masaya po ang mga magulang kapag nakapagtapos kayo ng pag-aaral. Alam n’yo, ang mga magulang natin halos magpakamatay sa trabaho para mapag-aral ang kanilang mga anak. Bilang ganti po, mag-aral kayo nang mabuti. Konswelo po ‘yan sa ating mga magulang,” he continued.
Go was also instrumental in pushing for Republic Act No. 11470 which established the National Academy of Sports at the New Clark City Sports Complex in Capas, Tarlac.
The NAS, a government-run school for the country’s future athletes, offers a secondary education program integrated with a special curriculum on sports for gifted young Filipinos who want to enhance their physical and mental capabilities in sports.
“Mayroon tayong inisyatibo na natapos na, ‘yung National Academy of Sports. Ang mga kabataan pwede silang mag-aral at mag-training, pwede rin silang mag-training habang nag-aaral. Walang masakripisyo na oras dahil nasa loob na ‘yung gusali, sa loob ng compound po. Nandoon rin po ‘yung kanilang pag-aaral,” he explained.
Go also filed Senate Bill No. 1190 which seeks to expand the application of the Special Education Fund (SEF) to other needs of the public education system.
Under his proposed measure, the SEF may be used for the operation and maintenance of public schools, construction and repair of school buildings and libraries, facilities and equipment. It may also be utilized for the payment of salaries, allowances and other benefits of teaching and non-teaching personnel, and competency training for teaching personnel.
“Nais ko rin pong pasalamatan ang ating mga guro at iba pang school workers na nandirito ngayon. Salamat dahil patuloy niyong sinusuportahan ang ating mga estudyante. Ang pagtatayo ng bagong gusali na ito dito sa Community College of Gingoog City ay hindi mangyayari kung wala ang inyong sipag at dedikasyon,” he said.
“With this new building, I hope all you will be able to use it wisely and will be able to learn more. With this new development and your continuous efforts, I am sure the school will scale new heights in all aspects,” Go added.
After the event, Go proceeded to Oroquieta City, Misamis Occidental where he personally led a relief operation for 2,563 flood victims.
