The Department of Agriculture (DA) inaugurated a garlic tissue culture laboratory located in Sta. Barbara, Pangasinan.
In his speech during the turnover program, Agriculture Secretary William Dar said garlic is one of the commodities that need to be developed.
“As a result of the national food summit, we will set parameters to identify what are those in the commodity industry that need to be developed and garlic is one of those,” Dar stressed.
Dr. Jonar Yago, Assistant Director for Research & Development and Pest Management in the Bureau of Plant Industry, said the laboratory will be a huge help to the farmers as it is expected to increase their yield.
“There will be quality plant material for garlic and it will increase yield from 30 to 70%.”

Meanwhile, the DA also distributed farm inputs and machinery to the different farmer groups in the province.
One of the recipients, Michale Lopez of Malasiqui town said the farm inputs and machinery, and new technologies from DA will greatly empower them in their production.

“Mababawasan ang manpower at mabilis na din pagkarga kaya mababawasan din ang aming gastos,” Lopez said.
