Department of Tourism (DOT) Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco extended her heartfelt appreciation for the local government officials of the Caraga region for their enthusiastic participation in the 10th leg of the Philippine Experience Program (PEP).
In her speech at the welcome dinner hosted by the Bayugan City Government at the Lope A. Asis Gymnasium, Frasco talked about the DOT’s shared vision with local officials to expand the sustainable tourism opportunities in the region, benefiting not only visitors but also the local communities and ecosystems that sustain these destinations.
“Our commitment to Caraga’s tourism development is evident in recent initiatives and completed projects, including the Bega Falls Tropical Resort Improvement in Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur, the World War II Marker in Nasipit, Agusan del Norte, and the establishment of the Pagatpatan Wetland Center in Butuan City,” the tourism chief shared.
“We have also started construction of the Tourist Rest Area at Paseo de Cabuntog in General Luna, Siargao Island.”

“The Tourist Catwalk at Gata to Bretania Mangrove Area in San Agustin, Surigao del Sur exemplifies our dedication to eco-friendly infrastructure that enhances Caraga’s natural landscapes.”
Furthermore, she mentioned that the Tourism Champions Challenge (TCC) Awardee in the region, the Tourist Catwalk at Gata to Bretania Mangrove Area in San Agustin, Surigao del Sur, “exemplifies our dedication to eco-friendly infrastructure that enhances Caraga’s natural landscapes.”
The TCC is one of the projects of the DOT in collaboration with the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA), that encourages local government units to develop innovative infrastructure projects to boost local tourism.
Frasco also thanked the Bayugan City Government under Mayor Kirk Asis for their gracious welcome and wonderful showcase of their city’s tourism offerings.
