FRASCO BATS FOR ‘GREEN TRANSFORMATION’ IN TOURISM

As the Philippines hosted the 36th United Nations (UN) Tourism Joint Commission Meetings for East Asia and the Pacific, and South Asia, Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco called for shared dedication towards preserving culture and alignment of tourism policies across the region.

The Philippines, through the Department of Tourism (DOT), hosted the joint commission meetings of the UN Tourism held in Cebu recently.

“We share dedication to preserving our culture and promoting a cross-border collaboration, and aligning our tourism policies.”

“As we gather as a community of nations under the banner of the UN Tourism, we emphasize our shared dedication to preserving our culture and promoting a cross-border collaboration, and aligning our tourism policies,” Frasco said.

The tourism chief also emphasized on working together towards “green transformation”, which includes policies on sustainable tourism development.

As the DOT also puts tourism education at a prime, the tourism head likewise mentioned the importance of investing in tourism education.

“With the presence and support of no less than the United Nations Tourism Secretary General Zurab Pololikashvili, along with all the important global leaders here, we will lead discussions in the current tourism situation prevailing upon our regions, and work towards green transformation, sustainable tourism development, and education in tourism,” she said.

“The tourism in the Philippines was able to surpass the economic challenges brought about by the pandemic, with an impressive 6.21 million Filipinos employed in tourism-related industries.”

Frasco also shared how tourism in the Philippines was able to surpass the economic challenges brought about by the pandemic, with an impressive 6.21 million Filipinos employed in tourism-related industries three years after the massive industry and business shutdown and standstill.

“May our conversations spark our continued collaborations as we pursue our passions towards the unifying force that is tourism and may this lay the foundation further for a dynamic and enduring tourism sector that reflects the essence of a new Philippines, a Bagong Pilipinas, and beckons the world to embrace and cherish the endless reasons to Love the Philippines,” she concluded.
