Over 270 students, workers, and professionals related to construction listened to inspiring stories of Filipino women in the construction industry in an event hosted by FilPass Tamperproof Tech Inc. last September 1 via AirMeet and FilPass’ Facebook page.
The Industry Academe Linkage for Construction Series: Women in Construction is the third episode in the set of events organized by FilPass, which aims to connect the construction industry and academe through technology.
Apart from the speakers sharing their personal experiences, the attendees also got to listen to an overview of FilPass’ flagship project, the Construction Industry One Registry System or CIORS.
Opening the webinar was Engineer Hanna Trespeces, Co-founder of Engineering Wins PH, who talked about being a voice to all female engineers in the Philippines. She highlighted the efforts of her organization in breaking the stereotypes and myths of a male-dominated profession.
Following her was Engineer Kharene Pacaldo, Quantity Surveyor and Youtube Content Creator who recounted her journey as a female engineer online and offline. Being one of the first engineer-Youtubers in the country and now with over 11 thousand subscribers on her channel, her platform has been a way to inspire and empower more Filipino women to step into the industry.
In her talk, Architect Chona Ponce, Dean of the College of Architecture, National University shared with pride that in the academe, they do not teach thinking about gender; education is for all. She said, “Gender does not really matter, as long as you know what you are doing and enjoy why you are doing it because if you do not enjoy it, that’s the point where you really want to quit as a woman.”
Concluding presenter Dr. Mary Rose Imperial, Vice-Chairperson of the Philippine Technological Council Women Engineers Network (PTC WEN) spoke about the work-life balance women are experiencing yet in this, they are empowered. Through the years, PTC WEN was able to help women, not only in the construction industry, achieve their success stories.
“Challenges are there. The only way to get over the challenges is to beat it and show them that you can do the same as what your male counterparts do. While we cannot beat them in strength, there are other ways to beat them,” said Imperial.
Apart from the speakers sharing their personal experiences, the attendees also got to listen to an overview of FilPass’ flagship project, the Construction Industry One Registry System or CIORS. After which, they got to know new and exciting offers from the partner merchants of FilPass have for CIORS ID holders. It’s never too late to sign up for CIORS by heading over https://ciors.filpass.ph/, where the registration fee of PHP 112 (VAT Inc) is waived until October 31, 2021.
