The one week extension on the closure of the Tandang Sora flyover in Quezon City has enabled authorities to make the needed traffic rerouting and the installation of U-turn slots to allow for a smooth flow of traffic.
On the instance of Quezon City Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte and Quezon City 2nd District Rep. Winnie Castelo, the closure of the Tandang Sora flyover was moved from February 23 to March 2.
In a statement, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) General Manager Jojo Garcia said the date of the flyover’s closure was moved after the agency learned from officials of the city government and barangay officials during a meeting held on February 20 at the Quezon City Hall that there was not enough information being circulated about the closure.
City and barangay officials told the MMDA that there was not enough information being disseminated about the flyover’s closure
Belmonte and Castelo then suggested that a postponement of the flyover’s closure will allow city government agencies to make more preparations and better inform motorists about alternative routes to be used during the closure.
According to the MMDA, the closure of the Tandang Sora flyover will affect more than 100,000 motorists, who are traversing Commonwealth Avenue, and 3,000 motorists using the Tandang Sora intersection.
The closure of the Tandang Sora flyover gives way for the construction of the Metro Rail Transit line 7 Tandang Sora station.
