“Senior citizens have special geriatric or medical needs, and this requires the establishment of a specialized medical facility.”
This according to Quezon City Rep. Winnie Castelo, principal author of HB 3889 or the Act Establishing A Senior Citizens Hospital in Quezon City to be known as the Quezon City Senior Citizens Hospital.
“This bill invigorates the declared state policy that prioritizes the needs of the underprivileged and the elderly by establishing programs beneficial to the senior citizens, their families, and the rest of the community,” said the administration stalwart.

“The government is duty bound to adopt measures whereby the senior citizens can avail of medical assistance and proper health care with the view that they are still able to maximize their role as senior citizens in the task of nation-building,” added Castelo.
“The proposed specialty hospital will focus more on medical services that would address the health and medical problems of senior citizens as well as provide a venue for regular counselling or therapy, as the case may be,” explained the ruling party ally.

This proposed three hundred bed-capacity senior citizens hospital will be under the direct supervision of the Department of Health (DOH).
It shall provide medical specialists and services with particular focus on diseases and health problems of the elderly or geriatrics. It shall likewise provide regular counseling and therapy for the total recovery of the elderly.
“Our senior citizens already face, for the most part, a limited income-earning capacity. This unavoidable expense for specialty medical services thus takes a heavy toll on their children or relatives who more or less face, for the most part, economic difficulty as well. Hence, the government must alleviate this suffering by establishing a specialized medical facility,” concluded Castelo.
