ELECTRICITY MOSTLY RESTORED IN TYPHOON-HIT PROVINCES — NEA

The supply of electricity in provinces affected by the recent Typhoon Ambo is now back to normal, except for some areas in Sorsogon, Eastern and Northern Samar, based on the reports received by the National Electrification Administration (NEA).

As of Monday afternoon (May 25), NEA Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department (DRRMD) reported that power distribution services have returned to generally normal in the provinces of Quezon, Marinduque, Camarines Sur, Masbate, and Western Samar.

Damage incurred from Typhoon Ambo by ECs has ballooned to P189 million as of Monday.

There are municipalities in Sorsogon, Eastern and Northern Samar that are still undergoing power restoration due to the damage caused by Typhoon Ambo (international name: Vongfong), the country’s first tropical cyclone this year.

In its report to NEA DRRMD, the Sorsogon I Electric Cooperative, Inc. (SORECO I) said that restoration of households under its coverage area was at 98.68 percent level as of Monday.

The Eastern Samar Electric Cooperative, Inc. (ESAMELCO) reported that it was able to switch the lights back on for 15 municipalities, while power restoration continued for the towns of Can-Avid, Dolores, Oras, San Policarpio, Taft, Maslog, Arteche and Jipapad.

The Northern Samar Electric Cooperative, Inc. (NORSAMELCO), meanwhile, said power was fully restored in 13 municipalities, and partially restored in nine other towns. The remaining two municipalities are still for restoration, according to NORSAMELCO.

The restoration of power in Eastern and Northern Samar is being fast-tracked with the help of the ‘power restoration rapid deployment’ (PRRD) Task Force Kapatid composed of nine electric cooperatives (ECs) from Leyte, Southern Leyte, Samar and Biliran Island.

Meanwhile, the initial amount of damage incurred from Typhoon Ambo by ECs has ballooned to P189 million as of Monday.
